08/28/12 - Sportable

About this episode:
Olympics fever has already started to wane, but don’t let your Olympic spirit fade away just yet! The 2012 Paralympics are set to kick off in London with opening ceremonies tomorrow (8/29/12), and these athletes train just as long, just as hard, and will compete just as fiercely as Gabby Douglas or Michael Phelps. Did you know that in Richmond we have a local Paralympic Club that receives support from the US Paralympic organization? This nonprofit is Sportable, providing community–based adaptive sports programs. Sportable is a venue for people with physical disabilities to participate in sports, recreate, stay fit, and compete -- and through its work, Sportable also increases the greater community’s awareness about individuals with physical disabilities.
