12/17/13 - Virginia Conservation Network

About this episode:
The Virginia Conservation Network convenes and coordinates the nonprofits and individual lobbyists working for environmental conservation in the Commonwealth of Virginia. VCN organizational members include Virginia's Sierra Club, the Piedmont Environmental Council, the James River Association, and Chesapeake Climate Action Network, and VCN's individual participants are activists and lobbyists, sourced from, for example, the Virginia League of Conservation Voters. Their working groups advocate for state-level policy in the categories of uranium, energy, water, and land use and transportation. Some recent issues include hydraulic fracturing (fracking), community net metering, keeping the ban on uranium mining, revoking the hybrid car tax, applying the transportation budget overhaul to multimodal transportation (e.g., public bus systems, light rail systems), and stormwater funding.
