04/09/13 - Court Appointed Special Advocates

About this episode:
In honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Inspire Indeed welcomes two Chesterfield Court Appointed Special Advocates. (The Chesterfield CASA is a branch of Greater Richmond SCAN. SCAN, or Stop Child Abuse Now, is a hub for child-centered resources that includes CASA offices in the Greater Richmond area.) In legal proceedings on child abuse or neglect, the judge must decide whether to return the child to their family or find a replacement home (in foster care or by adoption). Courts in the greater Richmond area have Court Appointed Special Advocates to gather comprehensive information from the child’s caregivers, school, social services, and more. A court report compiled by the CASA carefully considers all aspects of the child’s home environment, making a recommendation for placement with the child's happiest and healthiest future in mind.

Guest speakers:
Ruth Anne Cutright, Executive Director of Chesterfield CASA
Linda McDonald, Chesterfield CASA volunteer
