10/29/13 - Neighborhood Resource Center

About this episode:
The Neighborhood Resource Center of Greater Fulton is promoting community growth in Fulton, Fulton Hill and Montrose Heights, serving about 4500 residents and 1500 households. This area traditionally had no library, school grocery store, health clinic, or adult education center. But when the NRC opened their doors in January 2005, they began offering wrap-around services to correct the disenfranchisement that was prevalent in Greater Fulton. The NRC serves youth with childcare in a full-day Montessori preschool program, afterschool tutoring and healthy suppers, and extracurricular enrichment classes (including art, dance, music, scouts, and cooking). Other opportunities are made possible through collaboration: with Shalom Farms, teens run a produce stand every Thursday afternoon; with Tricycle Gardens, residents care for a community plot; and Bon Secours’ Care Van brings medical checkups to Greater Fulton with monthly on-location health clinics. Finally, NRC Works offers financial consultation for neighborhood adults.
